Editorial Board
The School Safety Review is guided by an editorial board representing some of the nation's most respected organizations working at the intersection of school safety, security, facilities, technology, and advocacy. Together, these organizations bring a depth and breadth of expertise that ensures every issue reflects the full landscape of what it takes to make schools genuinely safer.
ZeroNow
ZeroNow is a school safety and security think tank dedicated to making a collective impact on the safety of America's schools. A standalone 501(c)(3) nonprofit, ZeroNow unites leaders in education, technology, and public safety to drive meaningful change in how schools prevent, prepare for, and respond to threats. The School Safety Review is a program of ZeroNow.
National Council of School Safety Directors (NCSSD)
The NCSSD is the nation's largest professional organization for school safety and security professionals, leading advocacy, standards, and training to ensure every school is safe. The first and only organization dedicated to representing, educating, and building a national certification and continuing education program for school safety directors NCSSD is defining and elevating the profession of school security leadership at the national level.
The "I Love U Guys" Foundation
The "I Love U Guys" Foundation is on a mission to restore and protect the joy of youth through educational programs and positive actions in collaboration with families, schools, communities, organizations, and government entities. Founded in 2006 following the Platte Canyon High School shooting, the Foundation is best known for developing the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) and Standard Reunification Method (SRM), programs now used in more than 50,000 schools, districts, departments, agencies, organizations, and communities around the world.
Partner Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS)
First established in 2014, PASS brings together expertise from the education, public safety, and industry communities to develop and support a coordinated approach to making effective use of proven security practices specific to K-12 environments. PASS is the publisher of the widely adopted Safety and Security Guidelines for K-12 Schools, now in its seventh edition and recognized by the federal government as a leading resource for school security best practices.
National Council on School Facilities (NCSF)
The National Council on School Facilities is the nonprofit association of state K-12 public school facilities officials, with a mission to support states in their varied roles and responsibilities for the delivery of safe, healthy, and educationally appropriate school facilities that are sustainable and fiscally sound. NCSF represents the critical intersection of physical infrastructure and school safety, advocating for the facility investments that protect students and enable learning.
Security Industry Association (SIA)
SIA's mission is to be a catalyst for success within the global security industry through information, insight, and influence. As a leading trade association representing security solutions providers, SIA plays an active role in advancing school security policy, standards, and technology — including co-founding the Partner Alliance for Safer Schools and advocating for federal funding for school security programs.
Make Our Schools Safe (MOSS)
MOSS's mission is to empower students and staff to help create and maintain a culture of safety and vigilance in a secure school environment. Founded by Lori and Ilan Alhadeff following the loss of their daughter Alyssa in the 2018 Parkland shooting, MOSS is the driving force behind Alyssa's Law — legislation requiring silent panic alarms connected directly to law enforcement — now passed in multiple states nationwide.
Safe Schools for Alex
Safe Schools for Alex's mission is to provide the most current school safety best practices and resources to students, parents, school districts, and law enforcement so that all children can learn in a safe environment. Founded by Max Schachter in honor of his son Alex, one of the 17 victims of the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, the organization is particularly known for its School Safety Dashboard — one of the most comprehensive collections of school safety data in the country.
Safe and Sound Schools
Founded by parents who lost children at Sandy Hook, Safe and Sound Schools is a national nonprofit school safety advocacy and resource center that provides research-based tools and support for crisis prevention, response, and recovery. Co-founded by Michele Gay and Alissa Parker in honor of their daughters Josephine and Emilie, their mission is to support school crisis prevention, response, and recovery — protecting every school and every student, every day.
VTV Family Outreach Foundation The VTV Family Outreach Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established by the families and survivors directly impacted by the April 16, 2007 tragedy at Virginia Tech, where 32 lives were lost. Their mission is to promote and advocate for public safety and security of the nation's colleges, universities, and K-12 schools, and to provide assistance and services to victims of campus crime and their families. VTV brings a distinctive voice to the editorial board — one shaped by lived experience, long-term survivor care, and decades of legislative advocacy that has driven meaningful change in campus and school safety policy across the country.
